Sanctuary of the "Madonna della Gurva" [1]
The Sanctuary of the Gurva is dedicated to the Madonna delle Grazie for the miraculous events dating back to its origin. It is also known as the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Assumption, because the greatest feast that is celebrated here is on 15th August. The church was built after many extraordinary events occurred within a short space of time, including the oozing of blood from the image of the Virgin at a small primitive chapel that was then considered to be sacred. The location is spectacular, directly on the river and resting on a huge boulder which rests on a very small barycentric base, and still evokes a sense of wonder and mystery. On 15th August of every year, they celebrate the Feast Dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption, with the presence of the traditional Militia of Calanca: this traditional festival lasts for the entire day, with alternation of religious functions and drills by the Militia.
