Abbey of San Salvatore

The oldest part of the church of San Salvatore, the apse on the left side of the building, dates back to the middle of the 11th century. The recently restored frescoes inside it are from the 15th century, the work of Johannes de Campo, who also painted the frescoes in the Church of Saint Michael. In the 1400s, Augustinian monks settled on Mount Biviglione and introduced the cult of the "Madonna della Cintura". On the left side of the church, we descend the "holy stairs" to get to the two old chapels of Saint Margaret (13th century) and San Quirico (12th century). The bell tower was built in the 17th century.
